Light Summer
Delicate and pale. Powder blue, soft rose and light periwinkle suit best. Deep shades swamp the face.
Summer · Colour season guide
Cool, soft and muted. Summer colours have the gentleness of an English summer: dusty pink, soft blue, lavender and sage. Nothing shouts, and that is exactly the point.
Who suits it
Summers have cool, gentle colouring: ash blonde to mousy or soft brown hair, often described as having no warmth in it. Eyes are soft blue, grey-blue, grey-green or gentle hazel, and skin has a pink or neutral cast. Contrast between hair, skin and eyes is usually low, which is why strong colours take over.
In practice
Your neutrals. Soft white, pearl grey, soft navy and cocoa make a calm Summer base. Navy or charcoal replaces black.
Jewellery. Silver, white gold and pewter. Bright yellow gold can look brassy against Summer skin.
Going deeper
Every season splits three ways. Most people who get their colours wrong have the right season but the wrong sub-season, which is why draping matters.
Delicate and pale. Powder blue, soft rose and light periwinkle suit best. Deep shades swamp the face.
Coolness is the strongest feature. Dusty pinks, soft blues and lavender sit perfectly, with soft navy as the anchor.
Muted is the strongest feature. Sage, rose brown and soft teal flatter, while clear bright colours look harsh.
